I have another clicker question to get the day going in Classroom. Try to be there as close to 9 a.m. as possible. I’m trying to post all assignments by 7 a.m. each day. Those of you who like a head start can get rolling early, but please always try to come back to Classroom at 9 a.m. That’s out interactive time. Let’s not miss it.
We have a 1 pm class meeting in Zoom today. As always, I’ll send out the invitation just beforehand. Make sure your real name appears on your screen or I can’t let you into the meeting. If you can’t figure out how to do that, let me know who you are in the “Chat” feature. We have A LOT to discuss. For example, a lot of people are getting ZEROES in the gradebook because they’re marking their work “Turned In” but they’re not clicking SUBMIT on the forms. Other folks simply aren’t doing anything.
Just added a new “Checklist” form to Classwork. Use it to keep track of your work as you get things done each day.
We’re continuing our study of slavery and the Civil War with a history entry and a play reading assignment about them. The play is about how the Pinkerton Detective Agency created the Secret Service to protect President Lincoln. It has spies and bad guys and a wise-cracking Lincoln. It’s a fun play to act out or use “reader’s theater style,” so grab some family members, assign parts, and read through it at least twice. It’s in Classwork and comes with a quiz. You also have your usual stuff: the Read Aloud, a PE workout (I posted a couple new ones) and your End-of-Day Review Quiz (in Classwork). Regarding PE, I’m posting a class question where you get to vote one of the PE videos off the island. Which one should I delete? To vote, you have to have actually watched them.
You also have to send in your Perfect Paragraph FINAL drafts today. Please type it in Docs and SHARE it with me. I will grade it and return it. I’ll copy the best ones and post them. I’ll also leave some time in the Zoom meeting for people to read theirs out loud.
You need to keep practicing your cursive. Please copy this awesome sentence from Dahl’s Matilda into your composition journal in your best cursive handwriting (if you don’t know how to form a letter, Google it or ask a parent for help):
“Only yesterday the Trunchbull caught a boy called Julius Rottwinkle eating Liquorice Allsorts during the scripture lesson and she simply picked him up by one arm and flung him clear out of the open classroom window.”
And of course there’s math. Today we’re continuing our work with converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions. Today we’re going the opposite direction. If you have a mixed number such as 3 and ¼, how do you turn it into an improper fraction? It’s super easy, but I’ve posted a new video to help. Your assignment is Worksheet C and your homework is Worksheet D. There’ll be question on your End of Day Review about this stuff.
Finally, if you haven’t yet picked up your classroom supplies, please do so. You’ll need your history journal and literary terms journal tomorrow! You can pick up you stuff by going to the bus loop at school from 7:30 to 9 or 3:30 to 5:30. Have a great day!
