You know how in class I nag you to get your work done and turned in? Well, that’s a bit tougher online. That’s why I created the Checklist form in Classwork. Be sure to use it EVERYDAY to verify that you’re getting everything done. It’s just a way to keep you organized. Here’s a summary of today’s activities.
READING: Did you know that peanuts used to only be grown as pig feed? People didn’t touch them. At least not until the Civil War. Because food was hard to come by, folks were willing to try anything. That’s when the figured out peanuts. Read the short article for some more interesting facts. It comes with a quiz. Both are in Classwork. You also have the End-of-the-Day Review.
WRITING: I’m sharing your movie reviews in our 9 a.m. Classroom stream. I’m looking for feedback from all of you as well as funny comments about the movies you chose.
MATH: This one’s a bit tougher, so we’re going to take two days to cover it. Today we’re arranging fractions from smallest to largest based when they all have the same denominator. It’s not bad, but that means we’re saving the hard part for Monday! Watch my video and then give the assignment a try. Do Worksheet G for classwork and Worksheet F for homework. They both have a key to self-check, but remember, you need to make sure you’re understanding. Cheating on your work will cause you to bomb the test next week.
Here on the Platy you also have Shadows read aloud, another history entry on the Civil War (no video today), and this National Pig Day puzzle (it was in March; we missed it!). PE is free choice…get out and be active (You could maintain social distancing while playing Kick the Can in your neighborhood, or you could mow the lawn or do some yard work and count that as PE). Finally, please post this entry in your Literary Terms Journal:
Similes and Metaphor–figures of speech used to compare things. (write that sentence and then EVERYTHING shown in this picture):
