Isn’t this all so strange? I miss being able to sit down at a table group and lead a discussion from there. I miss being able to give our checkbook fines and rewards. I miss being able to stand right behind Cristian when he’s smarting off. I miss my whiteboard, even if it does crash all the time. And of course, I miss all of you. But, we’re making the best of this, right? Don’t give up. Keep on learning. Keep on participating. Here’s what you need to do today:
DAILY BIZ: Start with your Mini Math sheet. It’s in Classwork. I’ll start a thread at 9 a.m. asking for answers to some of the problems. You’ll also be asked to post some of the answers on your End-of-Day Quiz.
SUPER SENTENCE: Right after Mini Math, we’ll do another practice session with Command Sentences. It’s important that you’re there for the interactive session. Watching other people post, commenting on their sentences, and getting feedback on your own sentences is what the activity is all about. Today’s topics are the letter Q, police dogs…but let’s change it to police gerbils, and “funny bone.”
MATH: Simplifying Fractions to Lowest Terms. This will be easy if you know your multiplication tables and/or understand how to find the greatest common factor. Watch the video first (see below). Next, read page 214 in the math text. One of the examples they give is 9/15. Both 9 and 15 are on the 3 times table. Three is the GCF. That means we can divide the 9 by three and the 15 by three to create a new, simplified fraction. It is 3/5.
Simplify Fractions (A) is your assignment and Simplify Fractions E is your homework. Both come with an answer key so you can self-check. You’ll need to report your score and do an exit ticket problem on the End-of-the-Day Quiz, which is in Classroom.
READING: Some of you have in the past expressed that you’d rather work at a job then go to school. Well, 100 years ago, many children were forced to work rather than go to school. It was bad—really bad—for the world. Today’s Storyworks article shares an incident that changed things. It’s called Out of the Burning Darkness. It’s a non-fiction article. That means it’s fact-based, the real-deal. It comes with a quiz. It’s posted in Classroom.
GRAMMAR: Weird, wacky, and wonderful words (how’s that for alliteration!). Can you think of a word that can be used at least three ways? Check out this Vocab Lab activity and come up with a word that has a triple-meaning. Write it in your composition journal and then post it in the End-of-the-Day Quiz. If you can’t find one, check out Dictionary.com for some ideas.
HISTORY: click on the Today’s History Tab for today’s entry.
PE: Repeat yesterday’s workout. A session like that is something you should do regularly. See if you can make it farther without stopping!
ART: Wacky Road Signs are due tomorrow. If you can, take a pic and share it via email or Google Docs. Otherwise, plan on holding it up to the camera during our next Zoom meeting, which is scheduled for Thursday at 1 p.m.
READ ALOUD: Shadows Ch 10 & 11…Poe and the Raven (I think that’s the shadow that has been following him around, and maybe even who tried to kill Wesley!)
Finally, remember to fill out your reading log form for last night AND do your End-of-the-Day Quiz. It’ll posted in Classroom in the morning, but it should be the LAST thing you do each day.
Have an awesome day! Get outside but practice safe distancing.
