Don’t forget that we have a Zoom class meeting at 1 p.m. today. I’ll post the link in Classroom at 12:55. Also, your wacky road signs are due today. I’m going to ask each person to hold it up to the camera during the meeting. If you can, also share them in Docs or by sending me a pic via email. I should be able to post them like I did Gavin’s.
As usual, I’ll be online at 9 a.m. to help with stuff and to say hello, but there won’t be the usual long threads. Your morning warm-up is the Art 101 exercise. Your second task is your Super Sentence TEST. The test form is in Classwork. Please read the instructions carefully! Here’s the rest of your material for today:
MATH: adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators. Super easy! Watch the video (made by my former Room 15 kid, the extraordinary Emily Hawkins, now a high school senior). Addition worksheet A and Subtraction worksheet B is your assignment. Subtraction worksheet A is your homework. Be sure to simplify.
READING: The Daring Escape of Henry “Box” Brown. This is the true story of a man who escaped slavery by mailing himself to Philadelphia in a crate. It includes a puzzle worksheet. Both the article and the worksheet come as a PDF. It’s posted in Classwork. If you can print it, that’s ideal. Otherwise, just write your answers on a sheet of paper. I’ve included a key so you can self-correct and see how you did.
HISTORY: The comedian Kevin Hart is teaching the history lesson today! Do today’s reading lesson first, then click on the “Today’s History Lesson” tab and copy the entry into your journal.
GRAMMAR: Come be a Word Nerd with us! Click here and follow the directions on the page. The dude in the cartoon is like Auggie from Ringtone. He likes to use big vocabulary words that most people don’t understand. You’ll be asked to use a dictionary (or Google) to look up his big words to figure out what the heck he’s actually saying.
PE: Today is a stretching day. You don’t need a yoga mat; just find an open space on the floor or in the yard. How many of our PE stretches can you remember? Eagle? Tree? Superman? Happy Baby? Do as many as you can, holding each one for three deep breaths. Spend at least 15 minutes stretching, even if you have to go through them twice or make-up some new ones. I’ll be asking you on your End-of-Day Quiz to remind us of some stretches we’ve forgotten.
READ ALOUD: Ch. 12: Coffins. Click on the Read Aloud tab above.
Don’t forget your reading log and your end-of-day quiz. They’re both posted in Classwork. Have a great day. See you at 1 p.m.!
