Welcome back to class, my wonderful rotters! First of all, a note for Brison: Dude, don’t be in such a hurry! I appreciate your rising early and getting right to work. That’s awesome, but because you jumped into some assignments before Google Classroom went live of Friday, you posted things in the wrong place and didn’t get any of my feedback. Slow down a tic! That goes for everybody. Also, please note that the State of Oregon is requiring that we take attendance and keep track of grades, so make sure you’re turning everything in and doing your best. All right, thanks for letting me rant.
At 8 a.m. I’ll post a clicker question in Google Classroom. Make sure you answer it in the SAME THREAD as the question.
At 9 a.m. I’ll post this week’s Super Sentence. I’ll be online giving feedback until 9:30. Be sure to stay in the Super Sentence thread when posting, and stay with us for at least twenty minutes so that you can give your classmates complements and criticism.
At 1 p.m. I’ll send out an invite for our Zoom meeting. At 1 p.m. I’ll also post the end-of-day review quiz in Classroom. That means you have until 1 p.m. to finish all of the following.
Math: Fractions, pages 206 to 209 in the turquoise math text. Pretty easy stuff. Watch the video and then do #1-37 (odds only). There will be a worksheet in Google Classroom where you can post your answers. Your homework tonight is practice sheet A and practice sheet E. There are only 5 problems on each and they come with a key for you to check your work.
For reading, check out the story about a lost snowboarder. It’s based on a true story about a Scenic kid who went missing at Mount Ashland several years ago. It comes with a quiz. Both are posted in Google Classroom under “Classwork.”
Also, make sure you submit your reading log for the weekend. It includes what you read on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Also remember that we’re starting a new chapter book project. You pick the chapter book (it should be fiction). Choose a book from your collection at home, or check out a downloadable book from the library (jcls.org). If all else fails, do an online search for free book downloads. Lots of places are letting kids access their collections for free including https://openlibrary.org/ You need to choose your book by this Thursday at 1 pm. You’ll be expected to create a project about the book which will be due by the end of April.
There’s also a Grammar Cop activity about saying thank you in different countries around the world. The activity is from Storyworks. A link is posted in Classroom. You’ll need to log-in. If you don’t remember, see the post here on the Platy explaining how.
History: See the latest history entry here on the Platy on the Home Instruction tab. It has to do with a runaway slave named Nat Turner.
Chapter 7 of Room ofShadows is posted. Click on the home instruction tab to hear it. (You also get to meet my old cat, Shush.)
Finally, there’s an ART activity you can try. You may have noticed some wacky road signs back in Room 15 (like the picture in this post). These were created by former students who did this project. It’s posted in Classroom.
