Families, there are two important items to be aware of this week. Yikes, make that three!
1.) The annual Sams Valley Mini Marathon is this Thursday morning. This is the 3.2 mile walk/jog/run event held at Sams Valley Elementary every year. There’ll be over 800 students participating, making it one of the biggest races in the region, and because we’ve been doing this since 1974, it’s among the area’s oldest running events. How awesome our students get to join in (it certainly beats another day of math class!). All District 6 fourth and fifth graders are expected to participate as part of our PE program, but you needn’t worry; the kids have all been training during our daily fitness time. On top of that, if they want to walk it, that’s okay! There is no cost to this event as the entire thing has been generously paid for by West Orthodontics of Medford. Thanks to Dr. West, all participating kids get a SVMM tee-shirt (Room 15 kids picked the design), a swag bag of great stuff, and a chip-timing race bib, all completely free!
You’re welcome to come too! You can join us on the bus or drive out to SVE yourself (though parking out there is really hard to come by). You can even walk or jog the course with the kids (as long as you don’t “pace” the leaders). If you want to ride with us, be at CPE at 8:30; if you’re driving yourself, we recommend being at SVE at 8:30 as well.
2.) Registration for the Ski and Snowboard program opened TODAY. Click here for the details from the school district’s site. This is a fantastic program. While it seems expensive, it’s an excellent deal when compared to having your child learn to ski or snowboard on your own. The program fills up FAST, so if you want in, register ASAP!
3.) Finally, Halloween is also this Thursday. We don’t formally celebrate it and kids are not allowed to wear costumes or masks to school, but after returning from the Mini Marathon, Room 15 kids will having a class party: PJs, electronics, and snacks are all allowed. If you’d be willing to send in some treats, feel free.
