Mud and Thunder

Despite leaving us covered in mud, the 25th Annual Josephine County Tree Plant provided our students a rewarding experience replanting trees in what was once a burned-out forest. CPE students planted approximately 750 Douglas firs and ponderosa pines on Friday, and over the past six years, CPE kids have planted nearly 5,000! Prior to the event, students learned how to identify Oregon’s most common coniferous trees, about the difference between healthy and unhealthy fires, and more. Special thanks to all the parents who endured the wet weather to serve as chaperones. You deserve a corn dog (that means you’re awesome)! Click on the picture at left to see a few snapshots from the trip, all taken by Room 15 kid Morgan B.

This week also saw yet another epic failure on the part of the 5th graders to defeat the teachers in the annual Family Fun Night basketball game. Despite a billion last minute three-pointers by Dylan S. and Hunter C., the 5th graders lost 53 to 48. Better luck in the student versus staff hockey game on March 20th, kids!

This week in class, we’ll be practicing our plays, taking on a new bank of challenging vocabulary words, studying circles and other polygons, engaging in our classroom floor hockey tournament, and having a student-planned and prepared Valentines Party (Friday at 1:15). If you’d like to send in some treats for the party, feel free. Here’s the math homework for the week: Monday, Feb. 10; Tuesday, Feb. 11; Wednesday, Feb. 12; Thursday, Feb. 14.
