Kudos to Central Point Elementary kids for their great effort and accomplishment at the 38th Annual Sams Valley Mini-Marathon. There were incredible displays of guts, glory, and sportsmanship throughout the day. In the boys race, Robert A. finished eighth while Gavin A. finished first. In the girls’ race, Dyani finished ninth, Ellie L, finished fourth, and Paige B. was the girls’ champion!
Room 15 Kids performed their much-anticipated post-Halloween plays on November 1st to a often packed house. To view their performances, click on the title of each play. When you watch, try to ignore the sometimes poor sound and bad lighting. Instead, take note of student expression, the number of kids who attempted to memorize their lines (which wasn’t required), and the complexity of the text (all three plays were written for middle schoolers). Here are the plays: The Monkey’s Paw, The Birth-mark, and Odysseus vs. Cyclops. Note: These YouTube links are unlisted, so The Daily Platypus is the only portal through which to find them.
In class this week, students begin new Book Clubs on Monday (Riding Freedom, The Witches, and Bunnicula). They’re to read one section each Monday through Thursday night, they’re quizzed daily, and they’ll have regular discussions. The night’s given reading assignment can be found on each student’s Assignment Calendar. Students will this week also be working on writing play reviews (of the above performances), working on their web pages, preparing for Friday’s vocabulary exam, getting back to our Civil War studies, and continuing our practice with multi-digit multiplication (including with decimals). Here is the math homework for this week: Monday, Nov. 5th; Tuesday, Nov. 6th; Wednesday, Nov. 7th; Thursday, Nov. 8th. Finally, note that there is only three days of school next week: Monday, Nov. 12th is Veterans’ Day, and Friday, Nov. 16th, is teacher-inservice. We’ll be preparing report cards for parent-teacher conferences, which if you haven’t yet selected a time, you can do so by clicking here.
Goody for you Dyani and Paige 🙂
GOOD JOB DYANI AND PAIGE.B
