Name that Nat’l Park (again)

Here’s another National Park kids can try to identify. After no one came up with Mesa Verde last week, I’ve made this one a lot easier because it’s nearby and many of our students may have visited it. What’s the answer kids? Which national park is shown in this photo?

Fifth grade students are continuing their national park research project. They’re expected to complete the rough draft by week’s end. They’ll also be working on their play scripts and, later this week, getting a new list of vocabulary words (which can be found by clicking here). Fifth graders are also supposed to be bringing in their baby pictures for our annual year-end show. See last week’s post for more information.

All 4th and 5th grade student are gearing up for our annual trek to the Josephine County Tree Plant. This is a tree-planting/community-service project that centers around sustainable logging practices. The Elk Road site was logged decades ago but wasn’t properly re-planted. Consequently, a scrub forest with no commercial value grew in its stead. For the last 23 years, Jo County has been clearing the scrub and replanting native tree species that, if properly managed, will provide timber and timber-jobs in the future. Aside from that, the field trip is a lot of fun. To view images from previous trips, click the tab at right under “Special Events.” Students need to have their permission slips in by Tuesday. If you’d like to join us as a chaperone, be sure to indicate so on the slip and we’ll be in touch.

Finally, in math 4th grade students are continuing their study of geometry, delving this week into the realm of lines, segments, angles, and protractors. Here’s the homework: Monday, Jan. 30; Tuesday, Jan 31; Wednesday, Feb 1; Thursday, Feb. 2.

  1. Hey Levi! Yes, it is a big tree. Do you know the name of the National Park it is in?: Apparently none of my current students do because not one of them has come forward with a prize-winning answer!
