Huffin’ & Puffin’

The kids were huffin’ and puffin’ as they finished the 3.1 mile Sams Valley Mini-Marathon. CPE’s own Jantz Tostenson won this year’s race with a new course record of 20 minutes and 56 seconds. Other CPE placers for the boys included Dylan Kinney (3rd), Ethan Scott (8th), and Carson Hampton (10th). Paige Birmingham finished 2nd among girls, Nicole Baker, 4th, and Alejandra Pulido, 9th. The Top Team Trophy went to Central Point Elementary with 37 points. Congrats to all the six hundred and sixty eight students who participated in this year’s event. Also, a special thanks to the parent-volunteers who assisted, to our local PTO for its support, and to Roady the Roadrunner and Jags the Jaguar for their silent gestures of encouragement! Stay tuned for more pictures.

This week in Language Arts our primary focus will be on producing our plays, which we plan on performing on Friday. The Tell-Tale Heart and Penelope Ann Poe’s Amazing Cell Phone are tentatively scheduled to perform back-to-back beginning at 9:10. Goosebumps and Sleepy Hollow are scheduled for at 1:10. Both Double Features will be in the Music Room. We’ll introduce new spelling words and begin new Book Clubs next week (Nov. 7th). In the meantime, students should be free reading for at least 20 minutes every night. Struggling readers should spend more time reading and should “tandem read” with an adult.

In math, we’re continuing our study of multi-digit multiplication. Here’s the homework for the week: Monday, October 31st: none (Halloween); Tuesday, Nov. 1st; Wednesday, Nov. 2nd; Thursday, Nov. 3.
