Our first Adopt-a-Street walking field trip went exceptionally well. Room 15 kids collected 55 pounds of trash, nearly equaling in one outing what last year’s class collected in two! Does it mean the current group of Room15 kids did a better job, or does it show Central Point’s citizens are simply getting messier? A special thanks to all the parents who volunteered to join us. Without your assistance, this activity would be impossible to manage. The Adopt-a-Street Clean-up is one of many community-service projects we hope to undertake this year. Stay tuned for others as the school year continues. If you like this sort of thing, be sure to write February 3rd on your calendar. That’s when we attend the Jo County Tree Plant.
In class this week, 4th grade students have a big math chapter test on Wednesday. They’ll bring home practice tests on Monday and Tuesday nights as homework. Here are copies of the homework sheets for easy downloading: Monday, October 17th; Tuesday, October 18th; Wednesday, October 19th; and Thursday, October 20th. I’ve heard concerns from parents about how best to help students with their homework. Rest assured that any help is good, even if it is a different method than the students are learning in class. The internet is also a good resource. However, if completing a difficult piece if homework disintegrates into a family meltdown, feel free to set it aside and send it back to class incomplete. We’ll work it out on this end.
Finally, don’t forget about the Harvest Fair on Saturday the 22nd. It’s one of the big events of the school year and the only opportunity students have to don their Halloween costumes at school.
