All three classroom plays on Friday were smash hits with audiences ranging from first grade to fifth. Peter Rabbit in particular had the primary kids squealing (literally!) with delight. Kudos to Kale, Adrien, Levi L., Rodney, Levi K., and all the rest of the young actors for their Broadway-like performances. Although preparing for these performances can be stressful, Friday’s effort encourages me to do more of them (so expect new scripts this week).
Room 15 Kids have adopted Hopkins Road through the City’s Adopt-a-Street Program. It means we’ve committed to holding four “clean-ups” during each of the next two years. We’ll be setting a date for our first clean-up this week.
Room 15 Kids have also adopted a Nepalese student. It means we’ve committed to raising $280 be the end of the school year to pay for the child’s education in Nepal. You can read more about our student, Nur Tshering Sherpa, as well as the charity through which we provide for him, by clicking here. We figure it costs just twenty-five cents per week per student to get the job done.
Wednesday, Oct. 6th is Walk or Bike to School Day. Students can meet at Dave’s Market or Premier West Bank at 7:30 a.m. to join a convoy.
Also this week, Room 15 kids will be registering for the Mini-Marathon (see below), studying about Jamestown, completing their first Book Clubs, and with any luck, creating their student webpages. There’s no school on Friday. Although still a day off from school, it’s the day on which we used to celebrate the discovery of America. Ask your child why we don’t any longer.
Finally, we’ve opened our Daily Platypus Twitter page for this year. Throughout the day students periodically type an entry describing what’s happening in class. Parents can follow along by subscribing (click here for more info). The next time you ask, “What did you do in school today,” and get “Nothing,” for an answer, just check the Twitter feed. To check it out visit here.
